Stationery nerds, we’ve got news – beloved Japanese stationery giant Kokuyo has finally set up shop in Singapore, opening its first-ever store here at Ann Siang Hill. That means you can now get your hands on their goods without having to book a flight to Japan.
The public-facing stationery shop sits within Kokuyo’s new three-storey office and showroom at 31 and 33 Ann Sian Road. There, you’ll find Kokuyo’s Campus range, including its iconic notebooks ranging from classic to dot-ruled and flat-opening versions. Other Kokuyo staples include its needle-free Harinacs staplers and Dotliner glue rollers.
If you’re not already acquainted: Kokuyo started in Osaka in 1905 making covers for Japanese account ledgers, introduced the now-iconic Campus notebook in 1975, and has spent the decades since tweaking, refining, and redesigning the school-and-office staple. It’s now one of Japan’s major names in stationery, office supplies, and furniture.
The 447-square-metre space in Singapore also houses Kokuyo’s Singapore office and showroom alongside Lamex, the furniture brand that joined the Kokuyo Group in 2022. Upstairs, visitors can see its furniture in use, test out different setups, sit in on workshops, and even watch Kokuyo employees work from the so-called Live Office.
Singapore is no stranger to a good stationery shop, but this one is a little different. Kokuyo’s carefully curated selection offers a small window into Japan’s deep-rooted stationery culture, bringing a distinctly Japanese way of thinking about paper, pens and everyday tools a little closer to home – where stationery is less of a school-supply afterthought and more of a thoughtfully designed object in its own right.
