Vancouver, start salivating: Time Out Market Vancouver is celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival with a special lineup of dishes and treats.

The Market at Oakridge Park is already home to 20 kitchens spanning everything from Chinese dumplings and French-Asian pastries to Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Indian and Mexican cooking, making it particularly well suited to a celebration centred on sharing food.

And this one comes with some heavy hitters: think Peking duck, mooncakes and more, with participating Market kitchens putting their own spin on flavours connected to the festival.

Aim for the mooncakes

Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally a time for gathering with family and friends, sharing a feast and, crucially, eating mooncakes.

Vancouver bakery favourite Beaucoup Bakery has leaned into the season this year with its La Lune collection, including both traditional Cantonese-style and butter sablé-crust mooncakes. And extra good news: Beaucoup Bakery is accepting pre-orders 72-hours in advance. Limited quantities available.

At the Market, that means dessert is a must.

The savoury side of the equation is just as compelling. Heritage Asian Eatery already brings Chinese barbecue flavours to its Time Out Market Vancouver kitchen, including roast duck and char siu, while Blnd Tger draws inspiration from Jiangsu, Cantonese and Sichuan cuisines for its modern dumplings and small plates.

Basically, arrive with friends and get ready to share.

There’s something for every kind of eater

One of the best things about celebrating at the Market is that a group doesn't need identical dietary preferences to eat together.

Blnd Tger’s festival offerings make that particularly clear. The Custard Egg Steamed Mini Baos are vegetarian, while the Sesame Garlic Vermicelli Noodles are vegan and gluten-free. The baos contain dairy and eggs, while the noodles contain sesame paste, so dietary information is clearly spelled out.

In other words, the person craving duck, the vegetarian friend eyeing pillowy steamed baos and the vegan who wants a full savoury dish can all sit down at the same table.

That choose-your-own-adventure quality is pretty much what Time Out Market Vancouver was built for.

And there’s more happening around the holiday than dinner: Time Out Market Vancouver is also hosting a Mid-Autumn Festival edition of its candle-making Workshop Wednesdays on September 23, complete with tea-inspired scents and a special festival side quest.

Food, mooncakes, crafts and an excuse to get everyone together? Consider your Mid-Autumn plans sorted.
