Just in time for National Taco Day on October 7, Yelp has unveiled its Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025, spotlighting the most beloved trucks, counter-service joints and hole-in-the-wall restaurants serving the country’s most-talked-about tacos.

To determine the list, Yelp compiled restaurant reviews with a "large concentration of reviews mentioning 'tacos,'" and then ranked those spots using factors including "the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning 'tacos.'"

Birrieria Familia Castro in North Hollywood, California takes the crown. Yelp reviewers swoon over the family’s generations-old birria recipe, describing the tacos as “like a warm hug on a winter night.” Owner Anthony Castro says the beef stew takes three to four hours a day to prepare, and it’s worth it: the birria tacos, vampiros and mulitas—best dunked in house-made consommé—dominate orders.

RECOMMENDED: The best burgers in America—one per state!

But this family birrieria is not the only spot in California to make the list. In fact, nearly half the list (45 out of 100) comes from the Golden State, cementing it as the taco capital of the U.S. Other California highlights include Holbox, a Michelin-starred seafood counter in LA serving pristine Baja-style fish tacos, at number five and Mariscos El Chito (number ten) which operates straight out of a private garage and driveway.

A few other states stand out as taco hotspots. Texas claims nine slots, with Austin’s Paprika ATX (number three) repping the plant-based movement with nopales (prickly pear cactus) tacos. Arizona lands eight spots, bringing the fire with Sonoran-style open-flame tacos at Jalapeños Sonora Grill (number six) in Glendale. And Hawaii makes a strong showing with seven spots, like Honolulu’s Pit Stop Hawaii Food Truck (number 20), where Baja-style fish shares the menu with Hawaiian fusion pork.

From Michelin-starred kitchens to backyard grills, these 100 taco spots show what the Yelp community already knows: the best tacos aren’t always where you expect them—but they’re always worth the trip. Find the full list here.
