China returns to Time Out Market Barcelona to celebrate the Chinese New Year with traditional performances and Chinese martial arts, in a day full of energy, culture, and movement. The event will take place on Sunday, February 22, from 11 AM to 1 PM, on the market’s main stage, in collaboration with the Wu Shu Institute of Barcelona.
No prior registration is required to take part or enjoy the show, and the experience can be rounded off by staying for lunch at the Market, with a special promotion on €25 menus and the new Time Out Market kitchens: 9 de Julio, The Fish & Chips Shop, and Croquetelle. A perfect way to celebrate the Chinese New Year surrounded by culture, movement, and a great atmosphere.
Chinese bestiary
The day kicks off at 11 AM with the most magical visits of the celebration: the beasts emerge from their cave to perform the lion and Chinese dragon dance. They will move itinerantly through the market to the sound of traditional music, finishing together on the main stage. This colorful and dynamic display is a symbolic act that promises to bring good luck and joy for the rest of the year.
Martial arts
Once the stage comes alive, the action begins. From 11.30 AM to 1 PM, the audience will enjoy a continuous exhibition of Chinese martial arts, featuring demonstrations of Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and various traditional styles. Students and masters will present a true choreography of movement, strength, concentration, and elegance, connecting body and mind in short, adrenaline-filled performances.
Wu Shu Institute Barcelona
The activity is organized by the Wu Shu Institute of Barcelona, a pioneering center dedicated to the practice, study, and promotion of traditional Chinese martial arts. The Institute teaches Kung Fu as a holistic discipline that combines technique, health, culture, and values such as respect, perseverance, and self-discipline. With rigorous training adapted to all ages and levels, it offers a space to grow both physically and personally, always with passion, experience, and commitment to the Chinese martial arts tradition.
