It’s a necessary pain; For our MRT train network to expand and improve, certain works have to be carried out, which in some cases means temporary inconveniences. All Circle Line stations closed earlier for a while in July, but the reward? The addition of three upcoming new stations that’ll finally close the orange line’s loop and bring greater convenience to all.

This time, it’s the turn of Tanah Merah and Simei MRT stations to take a break for 10 days in November and December 2025, for construction work connecting the East West Line to the new East Coast Integrated Depot, which is scheduled to open in 2026. A new train platform at Tanah Merah station is also in the works. Here’s all you need to know about the train station closures starting November 29, as well as information on shuttle bus services to help ease the burden during this period.

When will Tanah Merah and Simei MRT stations be closed?

Both these stations along the green East West Line will be fully closed from November 29 to December 8, 2025 – that’s a total of 10 days.

Which other MRT stations will be affected due to the closures?

As a result of Tanah Merah and Simei MRT stations being closed, there will be no train services between Bedok and Tampines stations, as well as between Tanah Merah and Expo stations.

Will there be train delays with the closure of Tanah Merah and Simei MRT stations?

Factor in some additional time for your commute, as MRT trains will be operating on reduced frequencies in the vicinity of the closed stations:

  • Between Tampines and Pasir Ris: five minutes
  • Between Paya Lebar and Bedok: eight minutes
  • Between Expo and Changi Airport: five minutes

Bear in mind that the above timings are estimates for peak periods, and non-peak timings could see longer waits. According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), your typical commute around these areas could take up to 30 minutes longer. Passengers are strongly advised to seek alternative routes or set off earlier when making journeys.

Will there be shuttle bus services during the East West Line station closures?

Thankfully, yes. Shuttle 7, which will arrive every three to five minutes, will ferry passengers to and from Bedok, Tanah Merah, Simei, and Tampines MRT stations. Shuttle 8 operates in 10-minute intervals, going back and forth between Bedok, Tanah Merah, and Expo stations. Check out the full route map here.
