In the past, living close to Punggol’s seaside meant trading accessibility for waterfront views and greenery – but not anymore. Other than the new Punggol Coast MRT that’s already been up-and-running for close to a year, residents can now look forward to shuttle services around the neighbourhood via autonomous cars and buses. Yup, that means no drivers – just you, fellow passengers, and AI-powered self-moving vehicles taking you where you need to be, saving you up to 15 minutes of travel time.

Said to be functioning by the second quarter of 2026, Punggol’s shuttle services will be operated by Grab and ComfortDelgro. Prices have yet to be decided, but a Grab spokesperson shares that they’ll be somewhere between that of public transport and private ride-hailing.

There will be three routes, with key stops including Punggol Coast Bus Interchange, Sam Kee LRT Station, Punggol Plaza, and Punggol Coast Mall. See more details on the specific stops along the routes via LTA’s Facebook post.

The driverless vehicles will be equipped with screens where passengers can get a real-time view of the cars’ planned movement. And not to worry about safety, because each autonomous shuttle will have a safety operator on board who can take over manually if required.

This is one of many new developments in Punggol, with Punggol Heritage Trail, Punggol Coast Hawker Centre and Punggol Coast Mall being some of the recent highlights.

If reception is positive, this could pave the way for such shuttles to also be launched in Tengah in the future.
