Tanjong Pagar’s wildly popular tonkatsu joint has officially expanded east. Tonshou, the cult-favourite pork cutlet specialist from Busan, has opened its second Singapore outlet in Suntec City this month. And it’s not just more of the same. The new location comes with juicy upgrades: an outlet-exclusive menu item and a larger dining area.
If you’ve ever queued outside Tonshou at Tras Street, you’ll know the wait is worth it. Since opening in Singapore in December last year, the Korean brand has built a loyal fanbase for its charcoal-grilled pork cutlets that are tender in the centre with a crunchy, golden crust. Now, you can skip the hot wait in the heat, enjoy the AC, and perhaps snag a seat faster thanks to the bigger dine-in capacity.
More than that, you’ll get to try its new ‘black tonkatsu’ dish. This is essentially Hokkaido Kurobuta Rosu pork loin coated in black, charcoal-infused breadcrumbs. The black coloured breading contrasts starkly with the pale pink centre of the pork, and customers have given it a fitting name: ‘Black Pink Tonkatsu’. Despite the rosy hue, the meat is fully cooked and succulent, thanks to the joint’s signature four-step cooking process.

That’s right, the same four-stage technique will be used at the Suntec branch. It involves low-temperature frying, searing over high heat and a short resting period, before the cutlet is finished off over binchotan for a smoky taste.
You’ll find other familiar favourites like the hire katsu (pork tenderloin) and katsu sando sets on the menu too. Tonshou’s iconic sides, chilled corn potage, kimchi, shredded cabbage salad and miso soup will be served as well, alongside condiments like tonkatsu sauce, lemon kosho, Maldon salt, wasabi and the like.
Tonshou’s second outlet is open daily from 9am to 9.30pm at 3 Temasek Blvd, Suntec City, Tower 1, #02-473, Singapore 038983.
