If you’ve been wondering where to travel at the end of the year and are looking for somewhere a little less trodden than South Korea or Japan, consider adding Mongolia to your list. Just this week, Singapore’s Changi Airport announced that MIAT Mongolian Airlines will be launching new direct flights between Singapore and Ulaanbaatar – the capital of Mongolia – starting November 4, 2025.
Flights will operate every Tuesday and Saturday, with a journey time of approximately 7.5 hours. As of now, one-way fares from Singapore to Ulaanbaatar in November 2025 are going for around $400. Details about the departure terminal at Changi Airport have yet to be announced.
So, what’s there to do in Ulaanbaatar? Plenty, actually. Start with a visit to the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery, home to the statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara – the tallest indoor Buddha statue in the world, standing at 26.5m tall. Other must-sees include the Bogd Khaan Winter Palace Museum and the Choijin Lama Monastery. And for a truly immersive experience, venture beyond the city centre and spend a night in a traditional ger (also known as yurt) – the round tent that is traditionally used by Mongolian nomads.
