Road trips across the border are levelling up in a hot minute, because the Malaysian government is finally permitting recreational vehicle (RV) rentals for tourism come 2026. For the longest time, RVs in Malaysia were only allowed for personal use, and commercial rental was illegal.

With our neighbour Malaysia being a top choice for quick and easy weekend trips, there’s no doubt that Singaporeans will benefit from this new development. Instead of simply driving over via a regular sedan car – and having to plan out rest stops along the way – being able to pilot a spacious and well-equipped RV would bring a whole lot more convenience and comfort to your self-drive journeys.

In fact, with campervans often having proper mattresses, mini kitchens, and sometimes even their own toilets, you wouldn’t even have to book hotels for a good night’s sleep, which helps bump down the overall cost of your trip while adding an exciting element of adventure.

More information on the types of RVs available to rent and licensed companies to rent from will be available in the near future. For now, we’re eager to say goodbye to packed, noisy bus charters, and welcome a new era of travel with more flexibility on the road.
