Barbecue is sacred in Texas, where joints large and small attract enthusiasts from around the world, all eager to sample delectable meats, even if it means waiting in line for hours. Starting next month, American Airlines passengers can enjoy one of the state's most famous barbecue spots at cruising altitude.

As part of a new initiative to incorporate regional flavors on in-flight menus, American has partnered with Pecan Lodge to bring Texas barbecue to select flights between Dallas and New York. Yes, the Pecan Lodge that serves up celebrated brisket that's earned national awards and lengthy lines.

"As we celebrate American's centennial anniversary in 2026, we're looking forward to delighting our customers in new ways that honor unique regional tastes, beginning right here in our home state through one of the most beloved barbecue restaurants in Texas," said Rhonda Crawford, American's SVP of Customer Experience Design and Strategy. "Our customers deserve nothing but the best, and Pecan Lodge is certainly that."

Starting in February, passengers in first class on flights from DFW to LaGuardia and JFK International Airport can enjoy a flavor-packed platter featuring brisket, smoked sausage, mac and cheese and coleslaw, plus a side of pickles, onions and Pecan Lodge's famous barbecue sauce. It's a classic barbecue platter that will keep the Texas vacation going a little longer. In March, the menu will include a smoked chopped brisket sandwich on a brioche bun, paired with roasted green beans, potato salad and the standard sides.

If you want in on this barbecue feast, you'll have to plan ahead. The special meal is available by preorder only, which opens January 11 through aa.com or the American Airlines mobile app.

The partnership with Pecan Lodge is part of a broader push by American to rethink the onboard experience. As the airline celebrates its centennial anniversary in 2026, it's connecting with local favorites and familiar brands for a more thoughtful approach. Recent additions like Champagne Bollinger, Lavazza coffee and free Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members are offering more options to passengers.

This latest offering is a way for passengers to enjoy a real taste of Texas from the comfort of a first class seat, no waiting in line required.
