An army of anonymous ambassadors ate their way through thousands of ribeyes to find the fifty best steak spots – here are numbers 50 to 36

Steak lovers, mark your calendars. The team behind the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants, the closest thing the steak world has to its own Oscars, has just launched a spin-off ranking dedicated to Europe.
The organisation was founded in London back in 2018 and is known for sending a network of anonymous Steak Ambassadors out to eat their way through hundreds of restaurants across dozens of criteria. They rate everything from meat quality and ageing technique to wine list and service, before whittling the results down to a definitive list.
But just how selective is it? For its separate global ranking that includes a list of 101 of the best steak restaurants, more than 1,200 restaurants were evaluated this year worldwide. Now Europe is getting the same treatment as its own standalone ranking, and the reveal is happening in stages, counting down from 50th place. First up are positions 50 to 36.
A few of these names will ring a bell if you follow the global list. Sala de Corte in Lisbon added Kobe beef to its menu back in 2023, which was the same year it broke into the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants list, making Lisbon the only Portuguese city to feature on the global ranking at the time.
Over in Paris, Le Boeuf Volant takes a similarly serious approach to sourcing, flying in Black Angus and Simmental beef from as far afield as Bavaria and Australia to its small, vintage-styled Batignolles dining room. And in Madrid, Piantao doubles down on its Argentine roots, run by brothers from Tandil in central Argentina. They serve dry-aged ribeye and top loin steaks sourced from three different countries, alongside what’s reportedly the strongest Argentine wine list in the Spanish capital. If you fancy more steak spots, here’s Time Out's guide to the 10 best steaks in the world.
Consider this the appetiser, as the full list is being revealed slowly, so we will be back with updates.
