South Beach isn’t exactly known for subtlety, yet right in the middle of it all sits The Betsy, a boutique hotel that manages to feel part of the scene without succumbing to it. Built in 1942, it’s one of the last Florida-Georgian buildings in the area, its genteel colonial lines standing apart from the pastel Art Deco neighbors. Inside, the atmosphere is refined and art-driven, with galleries, poetry readings, and live jazz creating a cultural hub that doubles as a serene escape. Two interconnected buildings—the original structure and a newer Art Deco wing—are united by a striking outdoor sculpture known as The Orb. From the rooftop yoga deck to quiet library corners, The Betsy feels worlds away from South Beach chaos, yet all of it is at your doorstep when you want it.

Rooms span 130 options, from cozy classics to spacious suites like the Royal Ocean View and Skyline Penthouse. Expect walnut floors, four-poster beds, marble baths, MALIN+GOETZ amenities, and in-room libraries. Historic quirks persist—some layouts and outlets are a little backwards—but staff are quick to resolve issues. The property is famously dog-friendly (even boasting its own resident pup), offering canine guests treats, beds, and activity lists. Public spaces brim with personality: browse art in the hallways, take a dip in the shaded courtyard pool or the rooftop pool with sweeping ocean views, sip espresso in the Carlton Room, or unwind at the spa and compact but well-equipped gym.

Dining is another highlight. LT Steak & Seafood, led by Laurent Tourondel, draws locals as well as guests for its oversized popovers, well-executed steaks, and seafood, best enjoyed at a sidewalk table for prime people-watching. The Alley (reopening in Fall 2025) will serve Neapolitan pizzas and salads, while the Piano Bar hosts Miami Beach’s longest-running live jazz program alongside top-notch cocktails. Add in a beach setup just across the street at Lummus Park, and The Betsy becomes a rare South Beach hotel offering comfort and culture in equal measure.

Time Out tip: Be sure to stop by the Piano Bar–jazz will be on nine times each week, so you’re sure to catch at least one performance.

Address: 1440 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Price: Starting at approximately $200 per night plus a $45 resort fee.
Closest transport: Miami International Airport is 12 miles away (about 30 minutes by car); the Miami Beach Free Trolley stops nearby.

At the stylish new Andaz Miami Beach, fun is woven into the details, from the staff’s bold patterned uniforms to the curvy, line-free design that channels Miami’s laidback vibe. This 287-room oceanfront hotel in Mid-Beach is Hyatt’s first Andaz in Florida, and it embraces the city’s spirit from the start. Guests are welcomed in a living room-style lobby with a cocktail in hand, a perfect introduction to a property that blends Art Deco history with modern flair. The landmark building once housed a WWII radio tower, but today its arches, soft silhouettes, and tulip-shaped columns frame ocean views that remind you this is all about vacation mode.

Rooms and suites spread across three buildings echo the same playful-meets-serene energy. Sea-and-sand tones, plush turquoise rugs, and sculptural furniture make them feel more like chic mid-century apartments than hotel rooms. Families and groups will appreciate the many connecting rooms, while couples can splurge on oceanfront suites. Two palm-fringed pools and a beach setup with cheerful orange umbrellas keep the outdoor energy light, and the gleaming new gym with Peloton bikes and outdoor fitness terrace adds to the wellness appeal.

Dining is a highlight thanks to José Andrés’ culinary imprint. Aguasal serves Mediterranean with Latin flair—expect fresh cobia, watermelon-feta salad, and crispy oyster mushrooms—while Bar Centro mixes cocktails with theatrical flair, like a smoky Golden Vector or cava-spiked aperol spritz. Fans of Andrés’ famous croquetas will find them here too.

While shade by the pool is limited and covered cabanas are absent, the overall energy is welcoming and fun. This place hits the sweet spot for couples, friends, and families seeking a vibrant but relaxed escape.

Time Out tip: Ondara Spa delivers some of Miami Beach’s most indulgent treatments–book on when you check in.

Address: 4041 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33140
Price: Starting from approximately $349 per night in low season, $599 in high season
Closest transport: Miami International Airport is about a 45-minute drive

Longtime locals may reminisce about South Beach’s golden age, but The Shelborne by Proper brings that glamour back with style. Originally built in 1941 and refreshed by legendary architect Morris Lapidus in the ’50s, the hotel has undergone a $100-million renovation that revives its Art Deco and MiMo heritage while layering in retro-cool design. Even the pool deck feels reborn, its mint-green loungers framing the restored sculptural diving board, a glamorous nod to the past.

Rooms channel laid-back sophistication with sandy neutrals, retro greens, and modern touches like motion-sensor bathroom lighting and bergamot-scented Aesop products. Oceanfront suites boast multiple balconies and sweeping turquoise views, while upcoming pool villas promise a new tier of luxury. Minibars reflect the property’s health-conscious ethos—stocked with non-alcoholic cocktails and magnesium sleep aids alongside fine spirits. The Café serves TikTok-famous ube lattes and croissant sandwiches, while the poolside menu offers fresh guacamole and standout snapper ceviche.

Service here is a standout, with staff intent on making this the friendliest hotel in South Beach—a claim backed up by genuinely warm interactions throughout my stay, and the poolside experience is equally memorable.

A compact but well-equipped gym offers classes like sound healing, while the beach and boardwalk sit steps away. Location-wise, you’re in the heart of South Beach: five minutes from Lincoln Road, close to the Botanical Garden and Holocaust Memorial, and just blocks from The Bass museum, which guests can access with a complimentary pass.

Time Out tip: The jewel of the dining scene is the lobby bar, where oysters, seasoned plantains, and caviar accompany a martini service that elevates cocktail hour into a ritual.

Address: 1801 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Price: Starting from approximately $389 per night in low season, up to $789 in peak season
Closest transport: Miami International Airport is about a 45-minute drive, traffic permitting

This hotel’s website greets users with a banner that reads: ‘welcome to Miami’s best address’, and just one look at those oceanfront views makes it hard to disagree with. With 27 stories that rise above the long stretch of gleaming white sand that is Miami Beach, the St. Regis Bal Harbour is one hell of a presence when it comes to the neighborhood’s hotels.

Here, the ocean is the star of the show, but to supplement it are two stunning ocean-view pools–one family-friendly, in the shadow of palm-dappled loungers and umbrellas and one adults-only (the Tranquility Pool) with sweeping Atlantic views and raised sundeck–plus a bar, jacuzzi, oh, and private beach access. Reserve and oceanfront day villa (which are available from 10am-5pm) and you’ll get an air-conditioned lounge, bathroom, al-fresco daybed and butler service. Swish, right?

As for the rooms, each one, no matter the suite size, will come with floor-to-ceiling windows and glass-walled balconies, allowing as much of the outside in as possible (though if you’re keen for sunset views, make sure to put in a request when booking). Earth-toned colour palettes and lots of organic materials, such as wood and stone, create a particularly tranquil, paired-back vibe, but with the luxe, downy bedding and glamorous bathroom details–we’re talking dual-head rainfall showers and marble surfaces—it still feels ultra-sumptious.

The biggest attraction nearby is obviously the seaside, but Bal Harbour, the calmer, more relaxed older sibling to South Beach, is well worth an explore. There’s a huge open-air luxury mall with more than 100 designer boutiques to window-shop, an arts program called Unscripted where you can book onto activities like museum tours or private access to local galleries.

Time Out tip: Fancy an all-over tan? Haulover Park Beach, Florida’s oldest and most famous clothing-optional stretch of coast, is not too far away.

Price: Starting from approximately $645 per night

The Four Seasons at the Surf Club proudly lives up to the hotel chain’s prestigious reputation, and is decked out with a mixture of guest rooms, hotel residences, private residential apartments, and bungalows to suit a huge array of group sizes (some of the private residences have up to six bedrooms). So, whether you’re traveling as a couple or looking for somewhere for a couple of families to stay, this place could be the luxe Miami Beach stay you’ve been looking for.

If you’re vacationing as a big group with little ones, one of the three pools is a family-friendly spot for splashing around. A spacious layout with plenty of roomy seating overlooks an oceanfront lawn (primed for playing some games), but also plenty of shade.

As for the couples or adult-only groups, there’s the Surf Club pool with a vibe tailored to you, too, as well as some seriously impressive spa and wellness facilities. Opt for the ‘honey dream’ massage and your skin will be nourished by treatments with hydrating sugar cane. Dreamy.

Now for the food options—it probably won’t surprise you to learn that some of the neighborhood’s most enticing restaurants are at the Four Seasons. Head to Lido Restaurant for a modern take on classic Italian coastal cooking, or Lido Terrace for a more Miami Beach kinda vibe. Oh, and The Surf Club Restaurant, headed up by none other than Thomas Keller, acclaimed chef who holds no less than seven Michelin stars, is the spot to head for a really, really special occasion.

Time Out tip: Surfside famously offers a hit of smalltown charm, so why not hire bikes and explore the neighborhood before hitting the beach?

Address: 9011 Collins Avenue, Surfside, FL 33154
Price: Starting from approximately $955 per night

If you’re after the classic pool and party Miami beach vacation but where you don’t even really need to leave the resort, The Fontainebleau Hotel should be on your radar. Why? Well, firstly because this place has not four, not five, but six different outdoor swimming pools, so there are plenty of spots on loungers to stretch out under the sun and go for a dip–you could fill almost a whole week just by sampling one each day, but once you’ve done that, there’s also direct access to the beach from the hotel.

Hungry? Here there are nine—yes, nine–different restaurants to choose from, including options for filling your boots with Italian, Chinese and Japanese. Our pick? That’d be Prime 54, a swish take on the classic steakhouse restaurant with sumptuous cuts of meat which is tucked away behind the hotel’s historic Chateau Lobby.

Now for the nightlife. Fontainebleau is home to LIV, not just a crown jewel of the hotel, but of the entire after-dark scene in Miami Beach. It’s a sprawling 18,000-foot nightclub with four full-service bars, and either curated playlists or live performances from world-famous artists and DJs: at the time of writing, French Montana and Marshmello are on the upcoming schedule.

If, after a big night, you need some serious rest and relaxation, book onto a treatment at the hotel’s Lapis Spa. They offer everything from massages and skin renewal techniques to hydrotherapy in the form of a ‘celestial waters passport’—a jet bath immersion in mineral water with something called an energy deluge shower. They even have an exclusive partnership with an IV drip provider, NutriDrip.

Time Out tip: All that said, this hotel is still a solid family-friendly option. You’ll find a children’s playground and a waterscape to keep the little ones entertained.

Wellness is literally the name of the game at Carillon Miami Wellness Resort, and they seriously know what they’re doing when it comes to helping guests rejuvenate. It’s got an established reputation, having been built back in 1958 in what is now considered quintessential Miami Modern (MiMo) architecture, and was rebranded as the Carillon 10 years ago, still standing as a pinnacle of the Miami Beach experience with a load of relaxing amenities thrown in.

The 150 rooms here are all suites with kitchenettes, spacious living rooms and bathrooms, and they feel more like luxury apartments, particularly thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows which allow in floods of Miami sunshine.

It’s nestled on the shores of North Beach, and while the sand is gleaming and the ocean views are elite, the hotel is well equipped enough to compensate for the lack of amenities on its doorstep, and the spa is the star of the show. Treatments include everything from acupuncture and aromatherapy to facials, hot stone massages and reflexology, but there are also a shedload of classes on offer—we’re talking meditations, pilates, spinning, yoga and aquaerobics—and that’s on top of the gym, relaxation lounge, indoor pool and beauty salon. All bases are covered.

All that relaxing will surely ramp up quite the appetite, so head to The Strand for ocean-view dining and New American dishes—they’re signature dish is the ‘local catch’.

Time Out tip: this is the place to try out a treatment you’ve never heard of before—check the availability of one that intrigues you before arrival, to make sure you’re not disappointed.

Address: 6801 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33141
Price: Starting from approximately $321 per night

The Miami Beach EDITION is where you should stay if muted, tasteful design is your schtick. Sure, this place still encompasses everything you’d want out of a really good Miami Beach hotel–mutliple pools, ocean views, and multiple dining options—but it’s all delivered with a classy, boutique-like ethos and it’s located on the sleepier Collins Avenue.

This hotel has a whopping 294 guest rooms, including 28 private bungalow options and suites with terraces, and some even have two stories and decks overlooking the beach below, so you’re blessed with options when it comes to your preference, budget and how many people you’re traveling with. However, what’s guaranteed with each of them is neutral, Scandi-style colour palettes, luxury linens and sleek marble bathrooms.

Service here is warm and professional, from the bellman who’ll greet you upon arrival to when you check out at the end of your stay, and it’s a continuation of the relaxed, paired-back vibe that this hotel strives to achieve.

But like we said, you’re still in Miami Beach, and that means no shortage of entertaining and slightly unusual amenities. There’s a decently-sized fitness centre, plus two pools to choose from–a historic and a modern–as well as cabanas, a lawn, and a peaceful lounging area called the Sandbox which brags swaying hammocks and a fence of palm trees. However, there’s also a bowling alley and an ice-skating rink–yes, in Miami Beach.

As for where to eat, The Market is a multi-kitchen set up which feels like an elevated canteen experience, but if you’re after a more formal, sit-down meal, head to Matador Room (and it’s partner bar) which is inspired by mid-20th century glamour–you’ll taste some delicious Latin, Spanish, and Caribbean influences on the menu at this place.

Time Out: Keen to hit the alley? You’ll need to book in advance.
