Two Los Angeles hotels join the ranks of Michelin key recipients for 2026

On September 18, the Michelin Guide unveiled its 2026 Key selections, recognizing top-tier global hospitality with the hotel equivalent of Michelin Stars. Evaluated on criteria ranging from architectural character and service quality to community impact, 359 U.S. properties earned distinctions across the one key (267), two keys (78) and three keys (44) levels.

To receive three keys—a distinction awarded to just 155 properties worldwide—hotels must offer the ultimate in comfort, service, style, and elegance. While no U.S. additions joined this elite tier this year, two Los Angeles institutions successfully maintained their Three Key status (California has the most three-key properties of any state in the country). The Beverly Hills Hotel, opened in 1912, continues to captivate guests with its classic old-Hollywood architecture, storied history and modern updates that preserve its throwback charm. Down Sunset Boulevard, the secluded Hotel Bel-Air retained its spot, praised for its lush bungalow-style accommodations and exceptional dining options.

Los Angeles also shone in the two key category, which represents exceptional stays. Beverly Hills pillars L’Ermitage, The Maybourne and The Peninsula retained their two key status. They are joined by a distinguished newcomer: the Beverly Wilshire. Michelin elevated the legendary property in part for its highly regarded spa, Italian-style pool and Wolfgang Puck’s Michelin-selected restaurant, Cut.

The city's one key lineup—signifying a very special stay—features a mix of vibrant boutique options and coastal retreats. Winners include Downtown LA Proper Hotel, The Aster, The Prospect Hollywood, Le Petit Pali Brentwood and Regent Santa Monica Beach. Joining the ranks this year is Fairmont Breakers Long Beach, highlighted by inspectors for its classic glamour, impressiveness of its spa, panoramic ocean views and urban flair set against a beachfront backdrop.
