Los Angeles does brunch better than almost anywhere. After all, in a city where mornings start late and weather is rarely a concern, a long, indulgent meal is practically a must on the weekends. Here, you’ll find everything from champagne-soaked spreads to old-school diners pouring bottomless coffee for old-school prices. The best of them all? According to the Time Out editors who put together the best brunches in L.A. list, it's Redbird.

Set inside the former rectory of a 19th-century Roman Catholic cathedral in Downtown L.A., Redbird is breathtaking before you even glance at the menu. The soaring open ceiling, serene courtyard garden and spacious lounge create the kind of backdrop that makes Sunday brunch an occasion. At the helm is longtime L.A. culinary veteran Neal Fraser and his globally-inspired New American cooking.

The biscuits and gravy are the star of the show. Fraser’s version arrives as impossibly flaky, buttery squares blanketed in a rich, chocolate-colored red eye pork sausage gravy. The blueberry ricotta pancakes, imported from Fraser’s beloved, now-closed BLD, grab the spotlight too. They’re light, plush and just sweet enough. The pastry basket alone could anchor a meal, with salted caramel cinnamon rolls, Swedish cardamom buns, mixed berry milk buns and apple caramel hand pies rotating through the lineup. Savory plates like duck confit chilaquiles and Maine lobster congee topped with charred corn and chili oil show how far Redbird is willing to push brunch beyond avocado toast territory.

Coming in at number two is Saltie Girl, a Boston transplant serving up smoked fish plates, lobster rolls, New York-style bagels, SweetBoy confections and excellent brunch cocktails. Dante Beverly Hills takes the number three spot for its glamorous—and expensive—brunches. Mírate and République round out the top five.

If you're looking for your next brunch spot in L.A., check out Time Out's list and make plans to indulge this weekend.
