Dumpling Xi is set to open its first ever UK restaurant.
Dumpling Xi is one of the biggest dumping chains in the world, with over 900 locations globally and restaurants in 40 Chinese cities. It will take over a Shaftesbury Avenue space previously occupied by The Theatre Café Diner.
No official launch date has been announced, but the shop fit is underway with, rather excitingly, a sign outside the restaurant advertising front of house and kitchen jobs that states ‘training in China may be required’.
The first Dumpling Xi opened in Hegang in 2002, with 2024 seeing the brand travel to the US, Korea and Spain. Dumplings are prepared fresh every day, and are made in northern Chinese style.
The news follows the announcement that Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese dumpling chain, will be opening its fifth London location in King’s Cross. Currently, you can visit Din Tai Fung restaurants in Canary Wharf, Covent Garden, Selfridges and Centre Point by Tottenham Court Road station. The opening date for Din Tai Fung King’s Cross hasn’t been revealed yet, and exact details of the restaurant are also still under wraps.
Dumpling Xi will open at 154 Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2H 8HL.
