Home to panoramic views from The Shard, the gourmet stalls of Borough Market and the historic warship HMS Belfast, but also just a short walk from the City, London Bridge is a prime spot for a hotel. It’s no wonder, therefore, that there are plans for a major new hospitality project in the area, designed for tourists and city-slickers alike.

Real estate developers Latium Real Estate and Infinite Partners want to partially demolish two office buildings on Southwark Bridge Road, transforming the two buildings into one 17-storey hotel. It’s currently still in the planning stage, though those plans could be approved as early as next week.

The outline for the new hotel, which is yet to be named, includes a swimming pool, spa and gym as well as a restaurant and multiple bars. Next to the restaurant, there are plans for a small private bar with its own private terrace. Guest rooms will be located from the mezzanine all the way to the fifteenth floor.

The new hotel’s pièce de résistance? A sky bar and rooftop terrace garden located all the way up on the 14th floor. The new al fresco space will look eastwards over Southwark Bridge Road towards Tower Bridge with a view of the Thames. Tasty drinks and a chance to watch the sun set over London’s skyline? Sounds like a prime applicant for Time Out’s list of the city’s best rooftop bars.

As for the ground floor, the hotel’s developers want to turn once-dreary office entranceways into a hub of live music, food and drink complete with retail and art pop-ups. A public cafe will mean the hotel’s offerings aren’t just for those staying overnight.

Southwark Council’s Planning Committee has been recommended to approve the plans at a meeting next week (March 3). Although the developers haven’t confirmed an opening date yet, planning permission would bring it one step closer to becoming the latest addition to London Bridge’s list of high-end haunts.

Located at 22-24 Southwark Bridge Road, the hotel will be mere minutes away from foodie haven Borough Market, London’s oldest and most iconic food market. It’ll be so close you’ll practically be able to roll your way back to your room once stuffed full of gastronomic goodies.
