For six years, foodies and drinkers in the know have been ducking into a dodgy alley along Old Bailey Street to get to Obp, a casual spot for plenty of soju, beer, and Korean bites. However, those times are coming to an end as staff have confirmed the eatery’s imminent closure this month.
Obp’s final day of service will be on Saturday, September 19, so pop by one last time to enjoy mandu dumplings, their crispy-bottomed ChiBap rice pot, and plenty of soju before they shutter for good. Led by chef Junwoo Choi in the kitchen and Daniel Eun behind the drinks, this eatery brought a taste of South Korea’s casual alcohol houses called ‘sul jib’ onto the streets of Hong Kong.
It might be interesting to note that Obp is under Liberty Group, which also owned 11 Westside in Kennedy Town. If you regularly keep up with our news pieces or Hong Kong’s food scene, you’ll remember that the Mexican restaurant suddenly closed down without warning last month.
Let’s just pray that no other foodie favourites also bite the dust before the year is out!
