Take a nostalgic deep dive into the legacy of Gor-gor

If you have even a passing appreciation for 80s to 90s Cantopop, you’ll know that Leslie Cheung – or Gor-gor, as he’s affectionately known to pretty much every Hongkonger – was truly one of the greats that defined the era.
As a special tribute to the singer-slash-actor, the Hong Kong Design Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers have put together ‘Leslie・Grace at 70 Exhibition’, an exhibition featuring a trove of archival photographs, immersive experiences, and modern design works inspired by Cheung.
The exhibition is divided into three thematic zones, with the main section showcasing a collection of original Polaroids, negatives, and prints – many of which are being displayed for the first time – each capturing Cheung in his most iconic moments.
Beyond the framed shots, there’s also a recreated darkroom for visitors to learn about the craftsmanship behind traditional film development and printing, as well as a display featuring the original silver microphone stand from Cheung’s ‘Final Encounter of the Legend Farewell’ concert.
Over 400 students across communication design, digital media, and fashion image design also took part in the project, using Cheung’s classic album sleeves and personal style as inspiration to create fresh fashion concepts and contemporary visual art.
For fans and collectors, HKDI has partnered with Universal Music Hong Kong to produce a limited-edition commemorative vinyl record, with only 500 copies up for grabs at the HKDI Atelier Shop.
The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 7pm, running from now until November 15. Entry won’t cost you a penny, though you’ll need to register and book a slot online in advance before turning up at the doors.
