Delhi’s got more than one breakfast subculture, and this guide maps them all

Brunch is great, but breakfast? Breakfast is responsible. Breakfast has places to be. After all, there’s something optimistic about breakfast outings. You’re meeting people at the start of the day, when everything still feels possible, and the promise of productivity has not yet betrayed you.

Delhi folks, though, would balk at the concept of calling this a simple eggs-and-bacon situation. For some, breakfast on Sundays warrants a trek to Old Delhi for nihari and khameeri roti. Others will make a beeline for the bougie avocado-sourdough affair in Khan Market. Others still may want to deem the whole expedition brunch and go the whole hog, with the intention of skipping lunch. Honestly, we respect the commitment.

So, if you’re looking for the best breakfasts in Delhi, you’ve come to the right place. This guide rounds up the best breakfast places in Delhi, from old-school institutions and neighbourhood favourites to cafés worth getting out of bed for. There are parathas, puris, dosas, eggs, bakery breakfasts and plenty of strong arguments for ordering one more thing for the table.

And because breakfast is rarely just breakfast in Delhi, there’s plenty to do once you’ve cleared your plate. Wander through Old Delhi with our Chandni Chowk neighbourhood guide, or continue your food crawl with our picks of the best kebabs in Delhi and best pizza in Delhi

For now, though, start with breakfast. In this guide, there’s a little bit of everything for everyone.

The best breakfast in Delhi NCR

  • Delhi
  • 4 out of 5 stars

What is it: An all-day café and brasserie with a dedicated breakfast menu

Why we love it: They’ve got the dependable American and English breakfast plates down (very large helpings, enough for two) but also a reworked Eggs Benedict with Chettinad chicken, and Turkish eggs paired with pita instead of bread. Excellent pancakes too – a Nutella raspberry cereal version served with ice cream is particularly decadent. If you happen to hang on for lunch, give their sandwiches a go too.

Price: ₹3,700 for two

Timings: Daily. 9.30am–11.45pm.

Address: Second and third floor, M-Block Market, M-74, Block M, part II, Greater Kailash, 110048

Carnatic Cafe | Multiple Outlets

What is it: A well-trampled haven for authentic dosas, all prepared in their special desi ghee

Why we love it: The Malleshwaram 18th Cross dosa is an undeniable crowd favourite, though the less heavy dosas are brilliant too. Keep in mind that they’re not the usual crispy-thin ones you may be used to at other outlets in Delhi. Excellent vadas and idlis, and the filter coffee service is trusty and quick. A not-too-sweet kesari bath, too. They’ve multiple outlets, but the ones in Greater Kailash II and Meharchand Market are some of the most popular.

Time Out tip: Don’t miss their selection of Jaatre ice-creams.

Price: ₹800 for two

Timings: Daily. 9am–10.30pm.

Address: 82-85, Lodhi Rd, Meharchand Market, Lodi Colony, New Delhi, Delhi 110003

Perch | Multiple Outlets

What is it: A serene wine bar and café with multiple locations – the newest one in an outdoor avatar at Sunder Nursery

Why we love it: The English Breakfast comes with pork sausage, toasted baby potatoes, beans, bacon, eggs, and grilled oyster mushrooms. Equally worth mentioning are the yogurt trifle with pistachio puffed rice, as well as the fermented rice pancake served with avocado. It’s not just the food – Perch has an unhurried air about it. Elegant, but not overly pared back or too modern. It’s the sort of place you’d order at least two cups of coffee at.

Price: ₹2,800 for two

Timings: Daily. 6am–9pm.

Address: Multiple

Juggernaut | Kailash Colony

What is it: A legendary dosa joint with 26 varieties on the menu

Why we love it: The perennial queue outside both the Kailash Colony and Barakhamba outlets is testament to the quality of the the nosh: the podi ghee idli, mla pesarattu and chettinad idli are fan favourites, and the dosa menu’s equally impressive. They’ve also got several packaged stuff you can buy, like filter coffee, murukku, and banana chips.

Time Out tip: This is one of the few places doing a genuinely good iced filter coffee.

Price: ₹1,500 for two

Timings: Daily. 6am–11.30pm.

Address: HS-16, Main Market, Kailash Colony, New Delhi – 110048

What is it: A Japandi-style minimalist café that doubles up as a specialty coffee spot and bakehouse in the heart of Chanakyapuri

Why we love it: This is a posh spot with very nice interiors that make you feel reasonably relaxed about dropping an obscene amount of money on breakfast. Great bakes and coffee, paired with shakshuka eggs, cherry tomato/burrata sourdough, and Eggs Benedict. Just a great place to hang out, really.

Price: ₹2,500 for two

Timings: Daily. 7.30am–11pm.

Address: 3/48, Malcha Marg, Market, Dharam Marg, Block C, Diplomatic Enclave, Chanakyapuri,, 110021

Andhra Bhavan Canteen | Hyderabad House

What is it: A no-frills institution home to arguably the best South Indian thali in Delhi

Why we love it: At this price point, it’s got to be one of the most satisfying breakfasts in Delhi NCR. Barely any air conditioning, creaky chairs, plain wiped down tables, but still a long line outside on any day. Breakfast service runs from 8am to 10.30am, offering a spread of South Indian staples like idli, vada, dosa, and more. Add a cup of strong tea or filter coffee and you’re set for the day.

Price: ₹300-450 for two

Timings: Daily. 8am–10pm.

Address: 1, Ashoka Rd, Hyderabad House, New Delhi, Delhi 110001

Sitaram Diwan Chand | Paharganj

What is it: The myth, the legend. Delhi's most iconic chole bhature spot, going strong since 1950.

Why we love it: The bhaturas are cloud-soft, the chole are tangy, and it’s maintained quality over several decades. Very little can go wrong, though be warned: this isn’t a sit-down fine-dining joint by any means. You’ll have to elbow a few people out of the way.

Price: ₹100 for two

Timings: Daily. 8am–5pm.

Address: 2243, Rajguru Marg, Chuna Mandi, Paharganj, New Delhi, Delhi 110055

Triveni Terrace Cafe | Mandi House

What is it: Late breakfast enjoyers, rise! This is a tiny eatery inside Triveni Kala Sangam, where there’s usually something interesting to attend or look at

Why we love it: Opens at 10am, which I love. The food’s pretty simple – nothing too extravagant, a little reminiscent of (elevated) canteen food, but all very good quality. It’s the kind of morning fuel you look for when you want something that feels homemade. I highly recommend the gunpowder raagi idli, palak patta chaat, and the summer drink you won’t find anywhere else: bel sharbat.

Price: ₹600 for two

Timings: Daily. 10am–9.30pm.

Address: 205, Tansen Marg, Opp. FICCI Auditorium, Todermal Road Area, Mandi House, New Delhi, Delhi 110001

What is it: A pastel-hued café beside Dhan Mill compound in Chhattarpur

Why we love it: The decor gets everything right, but the food is the real star. The hash brown Benedict is just the twist the classic eggs benny needed, and the pulled pork chipotle benedict will have you wondering why this isn't a staple at every breakfast spot in Delhi. The hot honey chicken waffle is the thing I personally keep going back for, while the Za'atar chicken souvlaki is a great option if you prefer your chicken on the savoury side. Honourable mentions go to their flatbreads and the lotus biscoff latte.

Price: ₹1,800 for two

Timings: Daily. 9am–10pm.

Address: Unit 104-204, Regency One, 100 Feet Rd, near Chhatarpur Enclave, Chhatarpur Hills, Pocket D, Dr Ambedkar Colony, Chhatarpur, 110074

689 by THE QUORUM | Gurugram

What is it: Breakfast inspired by food from Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, and Tokyo

Why we love it: It’s rare to find a South East Asian breakfast in Delhi – kaya toast, tamago sandwiches, congee. Very Asian, healthy, and chic, all paired with coffee specialties from Subko. Thai iced tea and Malaysian white coffee come recommended.

Price: ₹3,500 for two

Timings: Daily. 8am–11.30 pm.

Address: First Floor, Two Horizon Center, Golf Course Rd, Harizan Colony, DLF Phase 5, Sector 43, Gurugram, Haryana 122009

Machan | Taj India Gate

What is it: The coffee shop at Taj, serving a five-star breakfast since 1970

Why we love it: The hearty Taj breakfast evokes a special sort of nostalgia that needn’t be relegated to the sad old world of memory. The à la carte menu’s still really good here, with eggs however you like them, fluffy pancakes, top-quality cold cuts, and granola bowls. Some Indian fare too but I’d say you’re better off sticking to the continental. They make a mean espresso martini if that’s the kind of breakfast you’re angling for.

Price: ₹4,000 for two

Timings: Daily. 7am–2am.

Address: 1, Maan Singh Rd, near Khan Market, South Block, India Gate, New Delhi, Delhi 110011

Indian Coffee House | CP

What is it: A Connaught Place nostalgia-inspiring classic where you can still get a cup of coffee for under ₹60

Why we love it: On the outside, it looks like an ordinary coffee shop, but true breakfast lovers know better. In my opinion, the big-ticket thing to order is their mutton dosa, after which regular masala dosas might just feel like a step-down. A light breakfast’s also available: butter toast, jam, French toast, omelettes, and more.

Time Out tip: They don’t serve chicken items at all.

Price: ₹500 for two

Timings: Mon-Sun. 8.30 am-9 pm.

Address: 2nd Floor, Mohan Singh Place, Hanuman Road Area, Connaught Place, New Delhi, Delhi 110001

Elma's Brasserie | Lodi Colony

What is it: Loved for their tea selection and red velvet cake, Elma’s is trusty when it comes to a spot of classic breakfast

Why we love it: English breakfast, pancakes and crepes, gourmet sandwiches, signature cakes – the list is endless. The ham and brie sandwich and honey glazed pork ham toastie with some coffee and their butter croissant is a pretty damn near perfect breakfast order too.

Price: ₹2,000 for two

Timings: Daily. 10am–9.30pm.

Address: 79, Mehar Chand Market, 80, Fifth Ave Rd, Lodhi Road Quarters, Lodi Colony, New Delhi, Delhi 110003

Monique | Multiple Outlets

What is it: A French café experience planted across multiple Delhi outlets, designed to make slow mornings a way of life

Why we love it: The matcha & coconut latte and pear & peach perfume iced tea are both worth ordering. On the food side, the le sandwich Norwegian with smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado, the tartine forestiere, and the crepe basque are all unmissable, and so are the breakfast bowls.

Price: ₹1,800 for two

Timings: Daily. 8am–11pm.

Address: Multiple
