This week, How to Train Your Dragon comes out in a live-action version—a movie to enjoy with the whole family. If you’re in the mood for a heartfelt romance, there’s a French film about second chances that will move you. And as a bonus, a national film that tells the story of a woman’s transformation on a coming-of-age journey.

1. How to Train Your Dragon

A reimagining of the first movie in this beloved franchise, now in live-action. On the rugged island of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been fierce enemies for generations, Hiccup stands out for being different and challenges centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, shaking the foundations of Viking society.

Fun fact: The film was directed by Dean DeBlois, the visionary behind the acclaimed trilogy that was nominated for an Oscar all three times.

2. Out of Season

A delicate French film that follows the lives of Mathieu and Alice. He is 50, lives in Paris, and is a well-known actor going through a crisis. She is over 40, from a small coastal town in western France, and works as a piano teacher. More than 15 years ago, they fell in love, separated, and each went their own way. Now that the wounds have healed, their lives will cross paths again.

Fun fact: The film, directed by Stéphane Brizé, was featured at the Venice and Miami Film Festivals.

When she goes out seeking help for severe back pain, she discovers the locals of the southernmost city in the world. A story of waiting and an accidental encounter between María, nature, and its inhabitants.

Fun fact: The film starring María Alche participated in the San Sebastián, Paris, Toulouse, and Colombia Film Festivals.
