Bangkok's historic Sala Chaloem Thani, better known to locals as Nanglerng Cinema dusts off its seats and cranks up the projector once more. The Film Archive throws open the doors for Cinema World Day on December 28.

A journey through film history spanning three eras of cinema. You'll get pioneering works from France's Lumiere Brothers (the folks who basically invented cinema as we know it), classic Laurel and Hardy silent comedy and a Thai horror gem, Mae Nak Phra Khanong (1959). The last one's the Priya Roongrueng version, and here's the kicker, it'll be shown with live narration, just like audiences would have experienced it back in the day.

If you fancy a trip to this atmospheric old cinema, here's when to rock up:

Saturday December 27:

3.30pm – Lumiere! screening

6pm – Mae Nak Phra Khanong with live narration

Sunday December 28:

3.30pm – Lumiere! screening

6pm – Laurel and Hardy silent film series

The whole thing is completely free, and the venue opens at 2pm if you want to have a mooch around and snap some photos of the space before the films start.

Seats are limited though, so you'll want to register in advance at fapot.or.th/movie_booking. Just don't leave it too late, registration shuts on December 25.
