Dudesweet, with support from the Department of Cultural Promotion and the Ministry of Culture, launches the whole thing to champion underground makers and electronic sounds from home, giving them a way to reach clubs, festivals and listeners well past the border.

After opening submissions to artists nationwide, the project takes in more than 380 tracks and picks 12 for the 'ThaiBeats Vinyl Compilation', a record that gets to DJs and industry types abroad. Give local electronic music, particularly the stuff that mixes cultural roots with a modern outlook, a real shot at being heard.

The 12 chosen are Amberleaf, Electric Piphat, ErrorMonday & April Summer, HIAKEMDESHO, JIPI & Nannue, Meltmode, Morlamboi, Ninja Dandruff, Pradit Saengkrai, Sounds of Future Siam, Sunju Hargun and The Thai Loyd Corporation. Some you will know from late Bangkok nights, some are brand new.

To mark the launch, three days of events run across Bangkok from August 20-22:

  • On August 20, 2pm, ThaiBeats Press Day takes over Speakerbox Livehouse on the first floor of Liberty Plaza in Thonglor. A talk panel titled 'What's Next for the Thai Electronic Music Scene?' brings together DJ Maft Sai, Tul from Apartment Khunpa, Note from Dudesweet and Pascal Karier of Kerala Dust to chew over where things are headed, plus live sets from the chosen acts and a special turn from DJ Tapejam.
  • On August 21, 9pm, the first showcase party lands at Melt Livehouse at Cloud 11.
  • On August 22, 9pm, the second night runs at The One on Khaosan Road, giving artists, DJs, listeners and industry folk a room to meet, swap ideas and hear these tracks played properly loud.

GRAB YOUR TICKETS HERE, all events are free.

The bigger aim is not simply shipping the music overseas but building a network of people who make it, and handing DJs around the world one more record they actually want to pull out and drop for a room full of dancers. See you on the floor.
