Two of the Australian winery’s best-known reds come boxed in red and gold, just in time for the family dinner

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and share a few precious moments of reunion with Penfolds’ limited-edition Bin 389 and Bin 407 gift sets. Boxed in red and gold, they’re easy to hand over at the door as the whole family squeezes around one big table. They also settle things when an auntie asks why you turned up empty-handed.
The Adelaide-born producer picks two of its best-known reds for the occasion, and the packaging is sturdy enough that someone’s mum is bound to keep it for storing receipts once the last glass is poured.
Bin 389 has the backstory. It dates back to 1960, when chief winemaker Max Schubert first blended it. Fans call it ‘Baby Grange’, as part of each vintage matures in barrels that previously held his more famous creation.
Bin 407 is the easier-going sibling. Shaped by the same techniques as Bin 707, the label’s top-tier cabernet, it’s medium-bodied with bright berry fruit and a gentle hint of spice.
Both sit on shelves at supermarkets and wine shops across Thailand, so grab one on the way to dinner. Bring a story along too. Penfolds began in 1844, when English doctor Christopher Rawson Penfold made fortified wine as a tonic for his patients at The Grange, the family cottage in Magill.
Penfolds’ limited-edition Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz and Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon Mid-Autumn Festival gift packs are available at supermarkets and fine wine retailers nationwide from August 1.
They cost B3,288 and B3,899 respectively. Find out more on the Penfolds website.
