Missed your shot at a countryside escape this year? Don't stress. You don't need to leave the city to lose an afternoon among endless blooms, because the Colourful Flora Festival is back, and it's completely free.
For eight days only, Queen Sirikit Park becomes a technicolour wonderland home to more than 260,000 flowering plants. There’s celosia, globe amaranth, impatiens, American marigolds, cosmos, zinnias, orchids and plenty more, all arranged in a riot of colour that's practically begging to be photographed.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration goes all out here, filling the grounds with over 200,000 ornamental varieties plus 60,000 Curcuma across eight types, from Snow White and Lanna Snow to Orange Impress. It's not all petals, either. Wander around and you find exhibitions, workshops, a plant and flower market, local produce stalls, plant competitions and hands-on demos covering everything from mushroom growing and veg patches to Arabica coffee and sturgeon farming.
Give yourself time for a slow lap of the entire site, because fresh corners keep popping up every few steps. Our top tip? Rock up in the late afternoon, when the golden light hits just right and the whole park glows. And here's the sweetener – swing by and you walk away with a free tree seedling for the garden.
