'shortshorts.bkk' hosts a close reading of ‘Call Me by Your Name’ for adults this September 2

Peaches. Apricots. Long silences across a sun-baked Italian courtyard. If you already know exactly which novel we mean, then 'Call Me by Your Thirst: An Adult Bookclub' might be a lovely way to spend a midweek evening.

This September 2, shortshorts.bkk invites you to sit, read and talk about literature in a small, unhurried room. Thai author Pim Wangtechawat leads a close reading of chosen passages from Call Me by Your Name, André Aciman's story of longing, restraint and desire set against a sweltering summer on the Italian Riviera.

You don't need to turn up having read the book. Even if reading isn't usually your thing, you'll be right at home. The point isn't landing on the 'right' answer, but giving everyone room to read it however they like, from how language carries desire to the smaller details of the body, the senses, place, shame and freedom.

The night ends with a quiet prompt to think about what 'intimacy' actually means to each of us, and why a novel can sometimes say what we'd never manage out loud. You leave with a book to finish and, quite possibly, a few new people to talk it over with.

'Call Me by Your Thirst' runs on September 2, 6.30pm-8pm at 6th Fl Bangkok.
