Time Out says

The revamped Speakerbox is back in its Thonglor stomping ground after a months-long facelift. Now with serious space gains and just a block and a few steps from its original location, Speakerbox 2.0 still retains its no-frills drinking spot with a dive bar soul. Speakerbox welcomes you with the bar area slinging music-inspired cocktails and pulling double duty as a chill café by day, and there’s no entry fee for its bar atmosphere. The main event though is hosting resident musicians and underground acts on the regular. This all happens in the live room, a purpose-built environment where sound quality takes priority, creating an optimal setting for live performances which can easily fit a crowd without anyone having to elbow their way through. Each night brings a different genre, so keep up with the lineup at Speakerboxbkk. And if you find your musical match in the city, tickets are available through Ticketmelon or at the entrance on event nights.

What’s on

MNDSGN Live

His music meanders, unspooling like smoke in a sunlit room – equal parts groove, introspection and something that feels a lot like memory. For one night only, the LA-based producer-slash-vocalist lands in Bangkok, bringing with him an exclusive set laced with unreleased work and cult favourites, performed live on keys and mic. Raised on soul, sharpened by Stones Throw Records, and baptised by the bass-heavy sanctum of Low End Theory, MNDSGN’s sound defies tidy categorisation. Rare Pleasure – his first album with live-band recordings – marked a pivot, not a departure. Think R&B washed in psychedelia, film scores spliced with jazz, all held together by collaborators who don’t just play – they converse. Bangkok gets him briefly, wholly, before he disappears again into that mellow, mesmerising orbit. Jun 23. B1,300 via here. Speakerbox, 8.30pm onwards
