The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Monumental Theatre’s take on The Rocky Horror Show leans into the tradition that makes this musical more fun to see with a crowd than alone. Running August 22 through September 6 at Dance Place, the production draws on Rocky Horror’s long-running audience participation rituals while putting queer expression at the center of the experience. That makes this a good pick even if you know the movie by heart: the point is less about discovering the plot than joining in on the wonderfully unruly business of watching it live. The schedule includes a Pride Night on August 29, plus preview performances before the August 24 opening. With music direction by Marika Countouris and choreography by Ahmad Maaty, this is a chance to see Monumental tackle one of musical theater’s most gleefully unconventional staples on its own terms.
