Running on an airport runway is not exactly an everyday workout, which is the whole reason to sign up for the Dulles 5K/10K. The course takes over an actual Dulles runway, with participants entering through the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center before heading onto the tarmac. The flat route should appeal to runners chasing a fast time, while the 5K option and stroller-friendly setup make it approachable for families too. Better still, the race raises money for Special Olympics of Virginia, the Committee for Dulles Community Outreach and the Washington Airports Task Force. The 14th annual edition takes place Saturday morning, giving you a legitimate reason to be out and moving before most of Northern Virginia has finished its coffee.
