Is your local pharmacy one of them?

Another day, another pharmacy chain closure—hot off the news that CVS would be closing nearly 300 retail locations in 2025 comes word that yet a fellow major drugstore chain would be shuttering another batch of locations this month: Walgreens will reportedly say goodbye to 20 retail outposts across the U.S. in June.
The Walgreens closings are not only part of cost-cutting measures designed to return the focus on its core business as a retail pharmacy but also indicative of a concerning national trend that saw U.S. store closures hit a high point in 2024 under the pressure of competition with online retailers like Amazon. Walgreens previously announced last October its plans to shutter 1,200 underperforming stores (out of its fleet of roughly 8,500 stores nationwide) over the next three years, with 500 to close their doors this fiscal year alone.
