If you assume the West Coast is the best place to find a cheap domestic flight, well, sorry, Los Angeles and San Francisco. A new analysis from travel platform Going revealed that the best U.S. airport for domestic flight deals is actually Denver International Airport.
Yes, Denver. Remember, the analysis was about domestic flight deals, not the best airport. And that's obvious to anyone who has spent 45 minutes walking to their gate while wondering if they're in a liminal travel space where they'll be asked to answer a riddle to move on to the next destination.

Going analyzed more than 45,000 routes across U.S. airports between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, looking not simply at the cheapest fares but at how often travelers found good deals and how deep the discounts were. Denver came out on top for domestic flights thanks to the only thing that might cut costs: big businesses fighting amongst each other.
As it turns out, Denver is a hub for United Airlines, Southwest operates its largest airport operation there and Frontier is headquartered in the city. That gives travelers three major carriers competing aggressively for passengers. Going cites that fare war as a major reason Denver came out on top. And there are plenty of passengers for everyone to fight over: more than 82 million people traveled through Denver International Airport in 2025.
Denver isn't the only airport where travelers can potentially benefit from airlines battling for supremacy. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport ranked second for domestic deals, followed by Orlando International Airport. The underlying principle is the same in all three places: more competition tends to mean lower fares. Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Los Angeles rounded out the top five.
And that could be useful information for anyone traveling cross-country. If you're flexible about where your vacation begins—or willing to add an extra stop to the journey—it may be worth checking fares from competing airports rather than automatically booking from your closest one.
But then again, that may only apply to travelers who have a high tolerance for turbulence. As anyone who's flown in or out of Denver knows, the wind banking off those mountains is no joke. And counting your savings is not what immediately springs to mind when only your seatbelt holds you down in your seat.
