Sometimes, the best travel trips are about what you don't see more than what you do. Or rather, what you think you might see out of the corner of your eye. If that's the case for you, Historic Hotels of America has just released a list you'll definitely want to check out.

The organization announced its 2026 Top 25 Most Haunted Hotels list, selecting the properties from more than 300 historic hotels based on their ghostly lore (and willingness to share that lore) and Halloween experiences happening this year.

Some of the stories are genuinely spooky. At the Hotel del Coronado, the ghost of Kate Morgan—who died at the hotel in 1892—is said to linger in Room 3327, while a 12-month paranormal investigation of another room reportedly documented more than 400 phenomena.

At New Orleans’ gothic Hotel Monteleone, meanwhile, guests have reported sightings of Maurice, a young boy who died at the hotel in the 1890s. Not to mention The Bride, who died on her wedding night at The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza St. Louis and has never left.

And then there’s the Queen Mary, where paranormal lore includes the infamous Watertight Door 13, Stateroom B340, a mysterious Lady in White and an alleged paranormal vortex in the former first-class swimming pool.

And now is the time to take the dive and book a stay; several of the hotels are leaning into their reputations this month with ghost tours, paranormal investigations, haunted-history programming and Halloween events like horror movie screenings. Just don't be surprised if you have a ghostly roommate for the night.
