It'll star Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, who will portray new-to-the-franchise characters.

I wasn’t allowed to watch episodes of The X-Files growing up. We’d be sent to bed as the theme song popped on (and what a song!), so it’s forever been associated with spooky, off-limits media…until now. I'm going to have to watch the entire original series because very soon, we're getting a reboot!

Ryan Coogler (Sinners, Black Panther) is producing an X-Files reboot for Hulu starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as “two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena,” per the officialy series logline.
The original sci-fi drama series created by Chris Carter, which ran between 1993 and 2002, starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI special agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively. They investigated unexplained cases that ranged from alien encounters to vampire cults and from cryptids to telekinetic killers. Their dynamic—the scientific skeptic and the theorist—was fun to watch, from their bickering to rare moments of appreciation...and more.
“I’ve loved The X-Files for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me,” Coogler said, per Variety. “What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world.”
Deadwyler and Patel will be playing brand-new characters, so we won’t be meeting Scully or Mulder 2.0. “Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience,” Coogler added.
Proximity Media, which Coogler co-founded with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, as well as 20th Television will produce the Hulu newcomer. Zinzi Coogler and Ohanian serve as executive producers alongside original series creator Chris Carter. Co-executive producers are Simone Harris of Proximity Media, Deadwyler and Patel. Jennifer Yale is showrunning.
It’s going to be exciting to see what wild situations our new agent duo will get up to and how they'll respond to their mysterious cases given today’s technology and penchant for conspiracy theories.
Now, I’m not asking that they reuse the original theme song, but I do hope they play homage to it in the new one. Maybe one day, I’ll send my kid to bed once it starts playing.
