It's not the end of the OBX saga, after all.

Once a Pogue, always a Pogue.
On the heels of the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Outer Banks, Deadline broke news of a prequel series on the way.
Season five premiered today, August 20, at 3 a.m. Eastern Time (with an official watch party to boot), putting a cap on the years-long treasure hunting series starring Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Rudy Pankow, Jonathan Daviss and Carlacia Grant.
According to Netflix, the new season finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home… one final time.

It may be the end of their story, but there’s more to uncover in the OBX, according to Deadline. Speaking to series co-creator Josh Pate, the outlet reports that Netflix is formally developing a prequel.
“We’re working on the script,” Pate said. “We’re working hard on it with our awesome partners from Netflix, and we’re just trying to get all of it as good as it can be.”
The prequel will tell the story of how the island split (between the Kooks and the Pogues, the haves and the have-nots), which is “particularly relevant in our country right now,” he added.
“And seen through the stories of some of the characters you know and some new characters,” Pate explained. “But they’re 20 years before, so it’s the parents’ generation.”
There’s no word yet on timing or cast, but Time Out will keep you posted on any developments.
