Americans eat an estimated 288 slices of pizza per year, so when prices creep up, we notice. A new study from ACE.com crunched nearly 250,000 Google reviews to find out which major pizza chains attract the most complaints about pricing and which cities are serving up the most costly pies.

Topping the list as the most “overpriced” pizza chain in America is Round Table. Despite operating in just nine states and maintaining a solid 4.0 rating, the chain logged 71 price complaints per 1,000 reviews. Customers may praise the quality, but they balk at the cost, with reviewers calling it “mega overpriced.”

Coming in second is Domino's, which recorded 14 price complaints per 1,000 reviews. Pizza Hut followed in third place with 20 complaints per 1,000. Rounding out the top five are Sbarro (which also had the lowest average rating, a 3.36 out of 5) and Papa John's. Other chains flagged for frequent price complaints include Mountain Mike's Pizza, Pizza Ranch, Little Caesars, Godfather's Pizza and Jet's Pizza.

Beyond chains, the study also examined menu prices across major U.S. cities to determine where a simple cheese pizza costs the most.

If you’re ordering in San Jose, prepare to pay top dollar. The city ranks as the most expensive in the country for a regular takeout cheese pizza, with an average price of $26.39. That works out to about $3.30 per slice. Close behind is San Francisco at $26.03 per pie. Chicago lands in third at $24.40. But Chicago also ranks among the highest-rated pizza cities overall, narrowly trailing New York in average customer ratings.

On the flip side, the best bargain for a classic cheese pie can be found in El Paso, where the average price is just $12.55, which is around 27% below the national average of $17.08. Nashville and Atlanta follow closely behind, both hovering around $13.

The rankings were based on 247,927 Google reviews from nearly 20,000 pizza restaurants across 30 major cities. Researchers used keyword analysis to isolate price-related complaints. For city pricing, Grubhub menu data from 45 cities was averaged using standard 12- or 14-inch cheese pizzas, with slice pricing calculated based on eight slices per pie.
