HBO Max's 'The Gilded Age' cast is releasing an official Christmas album

It’s gonna be a Gilded Christmas!

Everyone always remarks on how all of Broadway has been cast in HBO Max’s The Gilded Age. With cast members like Donna Murphy (Passion), Audra McDonald (Ragtime), Kelli O’Hara (The King and I), Christine Baranski (The Real Thing) Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me, Kate, Man of La Mancha), Carrie Coon (Bug) and others, they’re not wrong. Finally taking advantage of that, the cast has put together a Christmas album called “Voices Of The Gilded Age: The Christmas Album.”

And it turns out Christmas has come early because the album’s first single, “The World Needs Some Christmas,” performed by Ben Ahlers (last seen on Broadway in Death of a Salesman), dropped today and you can stream it here. Who knew “Clock Twink” could sing like that?

When it drops on November 6, the album will include the following:

• “It’s The most Wonderful Time of the Year” — Brian Stokes Mitchell (Frederick Kirkland)
• “We Need A Little Christmas” — Christine Baranski (Agnes van Rhijn)
• 'Twas The Night Before Christmas — a reading by Carrie Coon (Bertha Russell) and Morgan Spector (George Russell, Fallen Angels)
• “The World Needs Some Christmas” — Ben Ahlers (Jack Trotter, Death of a Salesman)
• “I Remember” — Audra McDonald (Dorothy Scott), Donna Murphy (Mrs. Astor) and Kelli O’Hara (Aurora Fane)
• “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” — Kelli O’Hara
• “O Holy Night” — Denée Benton (Peggy Scott, School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play) and Jordan Donica (Dr. William Kirkland, The Phantom of the Opera)
• “I Wonder As I Wander” — Audra McDonald
• “Let It Snow” — Taylor Richardson (Bridget, Annie) and Taylor Trensch (Oliver, Bat Boy, Floyd Collins)
• “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” — Adrienne Warren (Ava, Bring It On)
• “Wexford Carol” — Celia Keenan-Bolger (Mrs. Bruce, To Kill a Mockingbird) and Laura Benanti (Susan Blane, She Loves Me)
• “It’s Been Real” — Donna Murphy

The album from Concord Theatricals Recordings is produced by Grammy winner Sean Patrick Flahaven and Latin Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Desmond Child, who also wrote its original songs.

“I’ve been waiting my whole life to make this record, and I’m still in awe that I was able to bring it to life alongside some of Broadway’s most extraordinary voices,” Child tells Playbill. “Together we’ve created a loving tribute to our favorite Christmas songs, legendary artists, lyricists, composers, and arrangers whose timeless music has warmed our hearts and filled our lives with joy.”

The show’s fourth season premieres just before the album drops on November 1 at 9pm EST, which leads us to think there may be a Christmas episode featuring some of the songs! What a gift that would be.
