Often hailed as the ‘God of Manga’ and the ‘godfather of anime’, Osamu Tezuka is one of the most influential figures in Japanese pop culture. A pioneering force behind the development of manga and anime into major cultural exports, Tezuka continues to inspire fans and creators around the world.
Nearly a century after his birth, the Osamu Tezuka Fan Convention returns this October for the first time in seven years. The event will feature special talk sessions (in Japanese only) with some of Tezuka’s former assistants, as well as renowned producer Masao Maruyama, whose work includes Hunter x Hunter and Summer Wars.
Visitors can also catch special screenings of rare, previously unseen footage preserved by Tezuka’s production company, including works that were never broadcast. Whether you know Tezuka through Astro Boy, Phoenix or Black Jack – all pioneering works of Japanese animation – the convention offers a rare opportunity to learn more about the visionary artist whose influence can be seen in the work of giants such as Hayao Miyazaki and Akira Toriyama.
