Few culinary pick-me-ups can rival the restorative effects of samgyetang, a traditional Korean dish in which a whole chicken is stuffed with Korean ginseng, jujubes, garlic, pine nuts and glutinous rice, then served in a nourishing, pale grey broth. It's the house speciality at Grace in Azabu-Juban, where a full-blown samgyetang set – complete with kimchi and all the trimmings – can be had for ¥4,320. If that's out of your range, they offer half portions for a more budget-friendly ¥1,944 at lunchtime, and you can also opt for the tokusei ojiya (¥940), a delicious rice gruel made with the same soup used for the samgyetang. In the evenings, you can sample staple Korean dishes such as a tongue-tingling spicy cold tofu, buchimgae (chijimi) pancakes and bibimbap, and in summer the kitchen also turns out some wonderfully refreshing cold noodles (pictured).
