Fancy food halls showcasing some of Tokyo’s hottest eateries have been popping up across the city this year. Following the openings of P in Futako-Tamagawa and K, D, C in Shin-Okubo comes Blue Front Shibaura. More than just a restaurant cluster, this new complex is part of the rapidly developing area south of Hamamatsucho Station and has already made headlines for housing Japan’s first Fairmont Hotel.

Opened on September 1, Blue Front Shibaura boasts two towers with food halls featuring some of Tokyo’s most in-demand restaurants. Across the two food courts, you’ll find 27 new restaurants and about 1,000 seats overlooking the surrounding waterfront and greenery. Part of the seating area is also open to the public until 5pm, and you’re free to bring in your own food and drinks or even use the space for remote work or study.
Not sure where to start? We’ve rounded up the must-visit spots to try when you’re in the neighbourhood.

Dig into additive-free sweets at Panetteria Hagari. The shop specialises in handmade deli items and sweets, including their popular focaccia topped with tomatoes and ham and the decadent earl grey custard pudding.

Japan isn’t always the easiest place for gluten-free dining, but a new spot is changing that. Soba Labo specialises in 100 percent gluten-free soba noodles, served in refreshing salad-style bowls. They’ve also got wheat-free tempura don – perfect for a light, healthy lunch.

Craving yakitori? Don’t miss Omino Shibaura, the new outpost from the Michelin-starred Yakitori Omino. They’re known for using carefully selected domestic chicken, and each skewer is grilled over charcoal to perfection. Opt for the ¥7,150 course menu (available from 5pm) for an indulgent dinner.

Get your Italian fix at Ortu, a trattoria specialising in Italian deli dishes made with plenty of vegetables and freshly sliced prosciutto. Enjoy a platter of appetisers along with a drink, or visit during lunch hours on a weekday for hearty pasta dishes and lasagne.

The Southern California-inspired Palm Springs Club is where you can dig into gourmet burgers served on natural yeast buns. Must-orders include the classic Great Cheeseburger and the Great Cheese Nacho Bread open-faced sandwich.

For a protein-packed meal, head to Yagi Shoten Wine & Coffee, which specialises in carnivorous dishes ranging from Japanese black wagyu to Ezo venison, rabbit and duck. The shop also pours some great coffee, using freshly roasted beans sourced from Kenya and Colombia.

For the ultimate splurge, you can’t go wrong with an omakase sushi meal at Sushi Migiwa inside the Fairmont Tokyo. This intimate six-counter-seat restaurant offers sweeping views of Tokyo Bay alongside fresh, seasonal fish crafted with meticulous precision and artistry.
