Since 1905, Columbia Restaurant has been dishing out some of the best Spanish-Cuban dishes in the state. And even though there are a few locations around the state, including in Orlando and St. Augustine, the original Columbia Restaurant is in Ybor City and takes over an entire city block. Inside, you’ll find the same bar from 1905 in the Cafe Dining room, but my favorite place to eat is the El Patio Dining Room, which showcases a replica of the statue “Arion and the Dolphin.” The original statue was found in the ruins of Pompeii.
After taking a peek into the opulent dining rooms, peruse the menu, which is filled with cocktails, shareable plates, sandwiches, and more. You can’t miss getting a pitcher of sangria to share among friends, and the 1905 Salad that’s tossed table-side is also a must-get. What you get to go along with the salad and sangria is then up to you, but I always get the Original Cuban Sandwich and a cup of the Cuban Black Bean Soup, which feels like a hearty meal without being too heavy.
And if you like your dinner with a show, you can make reservations for the Flamenco Dinner Show, which takes place every Monday through Saturday. Reservations for dinner and the show are required, and can be made by calling the restaurant.
