Being a cat owner is a thankless job. These beloved animals who we love so much aren’t always that good at showing gratitude for our round-the-clock care and devotion. But they’re very good at making us aware when they’re unhappy, with the most common complaints almost always happen around mealtimes.

It doesn’t help that they’re picky eaters. Notoriously so. But not all hope is lost if your fur baby has a “refined palate”. Fancy Feast, purveyor of luxurious feline food, is launching its new Fancy Feast Gems to keep them fed and happy.

And because all cat owners deserve their kindness and generosity paid back at least double, they can get fed and be happy at an upcoming dining event that will answer a burning question: what if humans could eat cat food? More on that later.

Introducing 'Fancy Feast Gems'

Cats love the finer things in life. But eight hours a day of sunshine, deep-tissue brushing sessions, and on-demand treats aren’t always possible, so we can at least make sure they eat well, and Fancy Feast Gems are as good as it gets for a hungry cat.

This pyramid mousse pâté of chicken, tuna, or salmon, topped with savoury gravy, is designed around the joy of shared mealtimes. Whether your cat sits at the table or not, any owner can make this food part of their own ritual. Fancy Feast is designed to be peeled, flipped, and revealed, à la silver serving trays at your cat’s private five-star fine diner.

Research reveals just how sacred cat mealtimes are

Most cat owners have been woken at the crack of dawn (or before) by a desperate, pleading meow for food. Cats take their meals seriously, and before launching Fancy Feast Gems, Fancy Feast did the research to prove it. Using a YouGov study of Australian cat owners, Fancy Feast found that 55 per cent of cat owners think mealtimes are some of their most meaningful interactions with their cats, and 58 per cent said it’s their favourite interaction of all.

We’ll never know if cats feel the same way. What we do know is that 60 per cent of cat owners think cats are the harshest food critics in their household, and 40 per cent say they regularly try to keep up by adding new flavours and textures to food.

See what the fuss is about at the Feline Feast

Earlier we mentioned that you’ll soon get a rare chance to answer an age-old question: what does cat food taste like? As part of the Fancy Feast Gems launch, NEL Restaurant has created a 12-course menu inspired by your cats' favourite food.

Ever looked at the food that gets them so worked up and wondered what the fuss is about? Firstly, don’t be embarrassed; every cat owner has done it. Secondly, the Feline Feast at NEL will scratch that itch. Renowned chef Nelly Robinson has designed a 12-course menu of themed delights inspired by Fancy Feast Gems and the flip-plate-reveal ritual. Curious? Hungry? It’s only on offer for lunch and dinner sittings on Monday, November 2, so make like your cat and run to get a seat at the table, here.
