What is it? Marrickville’s fire-hot Greek grill house.
Why we love it: This casual BYO spot is arguably the busiest restaurant in Sydney – and has been since it opened. Why? Well, it’s really bloody good, with chef-owner Timothy Cassimatis drawing on his heritage and yiayia’s recipes to serve quality food with big flavours. It’s affordable too, with nothing on the menu costing more than $21 (except the massive meat platter to share). The handmade pita comes soft and warm, meats are charred and succulent, the creamy, secret ‘Big Mac Sauce’ tastes like sauce crack, and it’s BYO. What’s not to love? Well, the waiting time. But that leads me to my next point…
Time Out tip: You can’t book – instead, you add your name to a waiting list via QR code when you get there. Your best bet is to arrive before it opens and pray you make the first sitting. Good luck.
