When the team at Taronga released details of their new 55-hectare safari-style resort at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, wildlife enthusiasts of NSW went a little wild (pardon) – and rightfully so. The huge safari-style resort is a super ambitious project – promising to bring a taste of the African savannah to the Central West, with wildlife views from the infinity pool, family-friendly facilities and free zoo entry included with every stay. Now, we can start planning – bookings for Serengeti Resort are now officially open for, with the first stays available from March 16, 2027.

Set across 55 hectares of open grasslands, the resort will feature 35 two-bedroom villas and cabins, all sleeping up to six people. There are three accommodation types to choose from: 20 Serengeti Villas overlooking giraffes, rhinos and antelopes; nine Savannah Cabins with views of zebras and water buffalo; and six Eucalypt Cabins nestled among native vegetation.

At the heart of the property is a colossal infinity-edge swimming pool overlooking the open-range habitat. There'll also be a dedicated waterplay area for children and poolside dining, meaning you’ve got lots of excuses to dream away a lazy afternoon on the property if you prefer doing your animal-spotting from a horizontal position.

On the food front, Marafiki Restaurant will serve modern a Australian menu with views of the wandering wildlife. The restaurant and bar will also be open to the public, so you won't necessarily need to book an overnight stay to experience the setting.

Of course, the biggest drawcard is the wildlife itself. A stay includes free entry to Taronga Western Plains Zoo for the duration of your visit, meaning guests can explore the sprawling zoo before heading back to the pool.

The development is a pretty major addition to Dubbo's tourism offering. According to the team, Taronga Western Plains Zoo already welcomes around 300,000 visitors each year, with approximately 40,000 already staying overnight across its accommodation options.

Bookings are open now, with stays available from March 16, 2027. Keen? Find out more and book over here.
