Thanks to Sydney’s sky-high property prices – currently the second-most unaffordable housing market in the world – owning a home here still feels like a distant dream for many. But for those in a position to get a foot on the ladder, knowing where to look is half the battle. Now, legal tech company InfoTrack has revealed the latest data on Australia’s top suburbs for first-time buyers – and Greater Western Sydney is leading the charge.
To pinpoint the most popular postcodes among first-home buyers, InfoTrack analysed property sales across the country, tallying up the number of purchases made by first-timers in each postcode. At the top of the list? Postcode 2170 – which spans 12 Sydney suburbs including Liverpool, Moorebank and Prestons.
This isn’t a one-off trend either: postcode 2170 has topped the rankings for three consecutive quarters, further cementing South West Sydney’s status as a fast-growing hotspot. In fact, of the ten most popular postcodes for first-home buyers nationwide this quarter, only three NSW entries – 2560, 2250 and 2112 – sit outside the South West Sydney region.
"Liverpool continues to reign supreme for first home buyers, with the postcode 2170, topping the list for the greatest number of sales for first home buyers for the fourth consecutive quarter, this is huge,” Said InfoTrack’s Head of Property Australia, Lee Bailie. “Its location is a key growth corridor, and with major infrastructure projects and employment opportunities, this continues to drive demand in the area."

Coming in second is postcode 2560 – an area that includes Campbelltown, Leumeah, Rosemeadow and St Helens Park – which saw the second-highest number of homes purchased by first-home buyers over the past quarter.
Newcomers to the top ten list this time around include postcode 2155 (covering north-western suburbs like Rouse Hill and Kellyville), 2747 (including Caddens, Cambridge Gardens, Cambridge Park and Claremont Meadows), 2148 (covering Arndell Park, Blacktown and Kings Park), and 2112 (home to Denistone East, Putney and Ryde in Sydney’s north-west).
