Are bathhouses the next big wellness trend? Sure seems like it, with the opening of the dreamy Nowhere Baths at Dempsey, and The Ice Bath Club’s first central expansion all back to back. Pace yourselves, for we’ve just found another spot to add to your soak list, and it’s located in one of the world’s coolest streets, as awarded by our annual Time Out Index.
Forget staring silently at a blank wall as you dunk yourself in the healing waters of Ice Faction. At this mixed-gender ice spa at Joo Chiat, there’s a social element centering the whole experience, so you’re more than welcome – encouraged, even – to enjoy a bit of friendly chatter while your muscles and joints get their R&R. The whole layout of the facility helps further promote that, with the 3°C and 12°C cold plunge pools having a specially designed social space in the middle where you can hang out between dips.
Plus, the bright airy vibes brought about by the tropical-themed decor make it feel as though you’re in a chill beach club rather than in an enclosed space – which creates a relaxed setting for conversations to flow freely.
Hold up – it’s not just ice pools here. Ice Faction allows for a full spectrum of contrast therapy with a 40°C magnesium bath, a Finnish sauna, and a gorgeous steam decked out in a mermaid-esque turquoise. Alternate between these and you’re bound to have looser muscles, clearer skin, and better sleep over time.
End off your spa session on a sweet note with protein smoothies and coffee at Ice Faction’s in-house café, which doubles up as a social lounge.
Ice Faction is located at 86 Koon Seng Road, Singapore 427027. It’s quite a walk from Marine Parade MRT station – around 18 minutes to be exact – but take this as an opportunity to explore the area and make stops at gems like Heartware Store & Gallery and quaint bakery-café 174Bingo.
