Good news for all of us who have wandered home after late dinners, night markets, or a quiet stroll around Marina Bay – Singapore has just been named the safest country in the world to walk alone at night, with an astonishing 98 per cent of adults saying they feel safe on a solo night time stroll. Yes, that’s basically everyone.
Gallup’s 2025 Global Safety Report, compiled based on data from more than 145,000 interviews across 144 countries, asks the big questions: do you trust your local police, have you been mugged, had property stolen, or felt unsafe walking alone at night? Globally, 73 per cent of adults now say they feel safe – a record high – even as the world faces the largest number of armed conflicts since World War II. And while we admit there are some issues facing Singapore, it’s pretty impressive to see that this country ranked as the safest in the world for a solo night time stroll.
Singapore is followed closely by Tajikistan (95 per cent), China (94 per cent), Oman (94 per cent) and Saudi Arabia (93 per cent), but it’s the top spot that matters for locals: a nod to our clean streets, efficient policing, and community-minded approach.

There’s still work to do worldwide – women in particular report feeling less safe than men in most countries – but here at home, Singaporeans can take pride in living in a city where walking alone after dark is no longer a major worry.
So whether it’s an evening jog along East Coast Park, a late-night stroll around the CBD, or a cheeky supper run at 2 am, Singaporeans can feel confident: these streets are some of the safest in the world.
