It’s no secret – Singapore is a playground for those with deep pockets. Just look at the famous Crazy Rich Asians, set right here on this sunny island. Fictional tales of high society aside, we’re also the most expensive city on many counts, even for expats and wealthy folk themselves. But that’s not stopping anyone from parking their life of luxury here. After being named the fourth-wealthiest city, with a total of 242,400 millionaires in 2024, Singapore is now home to a total of 55 billionaires as of 2025.
This is a marked increase from last year’s 47, based on the Billionaire Ambitions Report 2025 by Swiss investment company UBS. Out of the eight new billionaires in Singapore, two are individuals who have newly moved to the country, while the other six are existing residents. We’re not just up in the numbers for the ultra-rich population-wise; overall wealth status for this financially blessed group has also expanded by two-thirds, or more than 65 percent, to USD 258.8 billion – that’s over 334 billion in our local currency.
Hefty inheritances, you might say? Nay. According to the UBS report, 69 percent of Singapore’s billionaires are self-made, though it does not specify how exactly these 37 individuals managed to attain their wealth.
As for the rest of us, it’s worth stretching our dollar with cheap eats, ever-reliable hawker centres, and free date ideas amid the rising cost of living.
