While other fast food chains are teaming up with trending brands and characters to create blind boxes, plushies and adorable merch, burger joint Shake Shack is taking a different and more culinary-focused approach to collaborations. This year, it is partnering with the one-Michelin-starred restaurant Nae:um to introduce a limited-time Korean-inspired menu.
Starting November 5, diners can walk into any Shake Shack outlet in Singapore to try four new items, including two burgers, loaded fries and a limited-edition makgeolli milkshake.
Pick between the Pyo:go Galbi Shack and the Saeng:Chae Gochujang Chicken, both crafted by Nae:um’s chef-owner Louis Han. The former features a juicy Angus beef patty with kale salad, sliced Pyogo mushrooms, red onions, lettuce and a smoky and slightly sweet galbi sauce. Those who don’t mind a bit of heat can go for the fried chicken burger, where chicken breast or thigh is doused in a garlicky, spicy gochujang sauce and topped with pickled vegetables.
Make it a set with the Salsa Jang:ajji fries, an upgrade of Shake Shack’s iconic crinkle-cut fries. This version comes loaded with tangy jangajji (Korean pickle) sauce, diced tomatoes, red onions, spring onions and a final sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Perhaps the most unique item on the new menu is the tropical makgeolli shake, where Korean fermented rice wine is blended with pineapple purée, lime juice and frozen vanilla custard.
This is not the first time Shake Shack has worked with other big names in the F&B world. Last year, it collaborated with local favourite and Michelin-Selected Keng Eng Kee to launch a zi char-inspired menu with special items like coffee-glazed chicken bites and white pepper beef burgers. It is, however, the brand’s first partnership with a Michelin-starred establishment, setting the stage for more chef-led menus in the future that can blur the line between fast food and fine dining.
Prices have yet to be announced, so watch this space closely for updates.
Check out Shake Shack and Nae:um’s special collaboration menu from November 5 onwards, available at all Shake Shack outlets in Singapore while stocks last.
