It's helmed by the Singapore Film Society, and SFS members get to enjoy ticket discounts

It was a sad day when The Projector closed its doors forever in August 2025, especially since many of us have cherished memories of the now-defunct local independent cinema. But a new year calls for a new beginning, and SFS Somerset might just be what we need to fill that gaping hole in our hearts and Singapore’s film scene. Helmed by the Singapore Film Society, this brand new indie movie house, which opened on January 1, 2026, is located within Hall 6 of Golden Village Cineleisure at Grange Road, and its weekly line-up is personally curated by its Chairman, Kenneth Tan.
Kicking things off is local film, The Old Man and His Car, which is sure to tug on your heartstrings. Starring familiar faces Lim Kay Tong, Richard Low, Steven Woon, and Sunny Pang, this production follows the story of an old widower who says goodbye to his precious vehicle in preparation to migrate, in the process confronting his past, his grief, and his love.
You’ll be heartened to know that tickets at SFS Somerset are kept relatively affordable at $15 per person, but SFS members can enjoy them for just $9. You can sign up for a paid SFS membership in various flexible durations, ranging from one to 12 months
