Diverse feminist films

This movie takes place in a kind of alternative Tehran, known as “Bad City.” We follow the attraction between Arash, a hipster dealing with his dad’s debts, and the lonely dark-lipped unnamed woman of the title.

Based, incredibly, on a true story, this is a big-hearted, barnstorming put-ona-show crowd-pleaser. It also has surprisingly trenchant things to say about Australian identity and the bitter legacy of institutionalized racism.

The original French version of this adaptation of Marjane Satrapi’s sensitive and sharp autobiographical graphic novel is a delightful, curious film that indulges in both the personal and the political and provides a potted history of modern Iran through one woman’s experience.

A delicate story about the struggles and hardships that five 20-year-old girls face. When it was first released, it was selected as The Best Movie of the Year by Women In Film Korea as it represented women as independent individuals.
