Roni Size

Roni Size has been at the center of drum and bass since the genre was still finding its shape, and hearing him at 1015 Folsom is a good excuse to spend a Thursday night with the sound in its proper club setting. His 1997 album New Forms, made with Reprazent, helped push drum and bass beyond its underground roots by folding in jazz, hip-hop and live instrumentation, but Size has never treated the genre as a museum piece. This set is billed as a return to the roots of jungle while looking ahead, which makes more sense than a nostalgia-heavy victory lap. At 1015, the emphasis should be on the low end and the movement of the room rather than spectacle. Doors are not listed, but the event starts at 9pm and runs late, with the show restricted to ages 21 and over.
